PESHAWAR: All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Chairman, Mohsin Aziz has said that three-day gas outage would bring the textile industry to a grinding halt, Geo News reported.

Talking to Geo News here, he said that myriad of crises has already thrown so many spanners in the works and denying us gas would prove last nail in the coffin of this threadbare industry.

The worst hit would be textile exports, he said warning depriving industry of gas for almost half-a-week would only add to closures and subsequent unemployment bringing more and more people under the line of poverty.

Aziz told Geo News that the total volume of global textiles was $300 billion with Pakistan’s share just at $14 billion, which could only be boosted if textilers were given more and more facilities.

That’s why the last year’s export target set at around $16 billion could not be achieved, said he proposing an ambitious target of $25 billion for the current year.

He also urged the government to ease the markup rate down to 6-7 percent.
