Food Pyramid or Nutrients Table

There are few nutrients which are very important for our body to function properly. All of these taken together form a Food Pyramid or a Nutrients Table. Sometimes it is also called a Food Plate. We can understand these different nutrients, their functions & sources from following:

Proteins

These are required for growth ,repair of broken parts in human body .Beef, chicken, fish & other sea foods, eggs, milk related products and legumes are good sources of proteins.

Protein help in building, maintaining and replacing the torn/broken tissues with-in your body. Do you know proteins make most of our organs our immune system and our muscles .

Carbohydrates:

These are also known as Carbs.Carbohydrates are major source of energy for human body. They provide us instant energy. You must have noticed sports-person taking sugar-drinks or glucose before start of a game, actually these drinks help them in getting instant energy. There are 2 types of carbohydrates –Simple & Complex. Simple carbohydrates are found in white sugar, lollipop, fruit & milk. Complex carbohydrates are there in grain (rice, wheat etc.) ,these are also called starches.
Our body breaks carbohydrates into simple sugars, which are absorbed into the bloodstream thus providing us desired energy.

Doctors advise to take more of complex carbs like grains etc. & to have less

of simpler carbohydrates.
Fats:

These are also energy sources for body. But these give slow energy to our body. Or you can say these are storage house of energy. These get stored in our body & when we need extra energy, fats provide energies in that time. But as name suggest, if we don’t use these ,then we can become fat . So regular playing, exercising are important to burn or use these fats. Potatoes, butter etc. are rich sources of fats. Doctors suggest that we should have less of fats & more of carbohydrates if we don’t exercise or play regularly .There is a chance that we can become obese if we keep taking fats on daily basis & don’t do any work to use this stored energy.

Vitamins and Minerals

There are 2 types of Vitamins: fat soluble and water soluble. The fat-soluble vitamins — A, D, E and K — these get dissolves in fat .These can be stored in our body. Then there are water-soluble vitamins — C and the B-complex vitamins .These need to get dissolved in water before our body can absorb these. So our body can't store water-soluble vitamins, we need to have fresh supplies of these on regular basis.

Vitamins & minerals support normal growth and development of our body, these boost our immune system. In short ,vitamins & minerals help our body to grow & assist our body systems to fight against germs & viruses. Fresh fruits , milk ,chicken meat green vegetables and fish are good sources of vitamins & minerals

Fiber

Fibers are the carbohydrates that are not digested. It is mostly found in the plants we eat for food like fruits, grains and vegetables. Like vitamins ,fibres are also of two kinds. Soluble & Insoluble fibers, Soluble fiber partially gets dissolved in water .Research has shown that it helps in lowering cholesterol level in our body. Insoluble fiber helps us in digestive process as it does not dissolve in water so it reduces the chances of constipation. So both kinds o fiber is necessary for our body.
