Importance of Healthy Lifestyles :
It's extremely important for kids of this age to continue (or to start) to lead a healthy lifestyle, including eating nutritious meals as well as getting plenty of exercise and adequate sleep every day. These positive health habits will help children grow strong, stay healthy, and decrease the likelihood that they will become obese.

Different Ways to Instill Healthy Lifestyle Habits in Your Children :
Eat at least one meal a day as a family:

Eating at least one meal a day as a family ensures that your child is making healthy choices during that time of the day. This also gives you the opportunity to lead by example and use the opportunity to teach your children about food choices and healthy portion sizes. By modeling healthy cooking habits in the home, you are helping transfer your choices into your child’s lifelong habits.

your Kids learn in the Kitchen:
Inviting Children into your kitchen can be a very positive experience for both children and their parents. It does not matter what you cook or how old your child is. When you invite your kids into the kitchen, they will learn more than just how to cook a meal. Research shows that through this activity, children learn a deeper level of Intimacy and Emotional Intelligence, among fine motor skills and literacy skills.
Science or Literacy anyone? Reading and following recipes highly improves the understanding of mathematical skills and reading skills of children. Let them spell it out… or write the shopping list. How fun!
• If you prepare and eat foreign food, children are exposed to different languages, different cultures, ??and some culinary vocabulary will stick, that goes beyond “spaghetti bolognese”, we promise.
• The preparation of cooking and hygiene improves the organizational understanding of your helper. Have them put away dishes, play with table settings, and let them name the cooking tools. What a fun way to be engaged. Following a recipe can be quite interesting, and your child will learn to adapt to follow directions.
• If your child is included in the preparation of the food, it is proven to show healthier eating habits later in life. Can’t argue that!
• Cooking together also conveys a sense of responsibility, “the team spirit”. In addition, many happy childhood memories go back to work on a project with their family – how about a family dinner night? Let’s make this a regular experience.
For preschoolers, learning is woven into developing fine motor skills and, through the counting of ingredients, a basic mathematical understanding is of relevance. Elementary school students appreciate the other hand, a deepening of reading abilities and strange flavors. In contrast, young children learn things that go beyond the food. Especially cross-cultural interest is created by culinary diversity. Moreover, teenagers will always appreciate the feeling of responsibility awarded. Trust them with something they wouldn’t expect you to trust them.
If one wants to cook with children, bear a few things in mind. First, ask them what they like to eat. That gives them a sense of self-control. Read the recipe together and prepare the ingredients together, to foster a team experience. Finally, and perhaps most importantly: have fun!
There are, however, a few things to consider, when creating a meal with very young children — those four steps are vitally important because of:
Safety …
… is the most important and can not even be stressed enough. Chemicals and sharp objects should not be in hands of unsupervised children – no matter how responsible the child may feel.
For cleanliness …
… Ensure at all times. Solid cleaning is necessary and your child can be included. No need to use harsh chemicals – simply use essential oils or vinegars mixed with water, to do the trick!
Variety …
… is the key when dealing with little ones. Otherwise they will quickly feel distracted and refuse to cooperate.
Smart shopping …
… and keeping smart snacks around is key when your little one has a sweet tooth. Grab carrots or corn for “sweet” taste, and be sure to include a variety of textures as well.
Now have fun, and remember to play it safe!

2.Get your children outside and involved:
This is another area where you can create these healthy lifestyle habits as a family. Play games in the yard, go on hikes, and just get outside. Playing ball with your kids or involving them in sports not only helps instill a healthy lifestyle, but it also helps them develop coordination and important social skills they can’t learn by sitting in front of a television. Teaching your children the joys of sports early can help them find their talents and teach them to appreciate exercise as a form of fun, not something to be abhorred.
3.Turn off the technology:
With technology at every turn, it’s hard to pull your family away from the tube, the computer screen, the phones, the video games, the iPads, and all of the other gadgets that are such a part of everyday life. But getting your children out of their seats and aware of the world around them helps them become more self-aware in mind and body. Communicating in-person with other children and adults establishes social skills that can’t be learned online and are essential for a successful future.
An Action Plan to Turn Off Technology and PLAY:
The “Play Cup”: It seems there are certain times during the day when your kids just struggle to find something productive to do. This is when you start hearing requests for a snack or a tv show or a game on the iPad. The “Play Cup” is my simple solution to redirecting your kids to a productive play activity. The cup contains slips of paper with toys or activities written on each. When the lulls creep into the day, your kids choose a slip of paper from the cup and are on their way to play with that toy or do that activity. Sometimes all they need is a little jumpstart to get back in the play mood and they will take it from there.

Technology Time Chart: With the introduction of an iPad to our home, your daughter’s requests to play started as soon as her feet hit the floor in the morning. With a simple technology time chart , she is now able to earn time on the iPad by completing age appropriate chores throughout the day. This makes so much sense to her and eliminates a lot of battles. When she finishes a chore, she turns in a clothespin for 15 minutes on the iPad. When she wants to have more iPad time, she completes another chore and turns in another pin. This has helped to teach the value of work, as well as foster independence.

Mommy Play Time: Everyday, you have to committed to give your kids at least 30 minutes of uninterrupted mommy play time. That means they will get your undivided attention… no phone, no tv, no cleaning. Just playing with mom
4.Ask them to participate:

Teach your children healthy lifestyle habits by having them help create them in your own home. Let them help grocery shop for healthy lunches, send thank-you notes and holiday cards to friends and family, keep up the house, and make decisions. Teaching your children to make the right choices for the family can help them understand everything that goes into creating a positive atmosphere.

5.Focus on extracurricular activities:
Extracurricular activities give your children a chance to make new friends, explore new skills and talents, and increase their self-confidence. A healthy lifestyle includes socializing, enhancing skills, learning new talents, and achieving goals. Extracurricular activities allow your child to explore these areas of healthy living in a safe and nurturing environment with children of their own age. They can also develop lasting friendships and learn from other children.
6.Teach them responsibility:

Giving your child responsibilities is an important building block for future success. Giving your child responsibilities early teaches them ownership and how to complete tasks required of them, as well as consequences. Giving your child the responsibility of planning their snacks or lunches, or planning breakfast for the family gives them the opportunity to take ownership, and also allows you the opportunity to correct their choices along the way
Add Chicks:
Keeping urban chickens may seem like a new trend for some, but here at WKA we continue to love our chickens for the benefit of teaching our children responsibility and respect for farm animals. And of course we love our “organic” fresh eggs. Daily.

There are many advantages to a backyard flock, especially for city-dwellers. Many chicken breeds produce eggs almost daily, so even with just a few hens you may never have to buy eggs at the market again. Chickens are fun to keep; letting your children watch them interact and do their daily chicken routine is amusing. Your visitors may even offer to trade their home-grown veggies for a dozen eggs. If you are an urban gardener, add chicken manure to your compost for a nitrogen boost. The possibilities are endless, the work minimal.
A couple of hens are not more difficult than a dog or a cat and can be kept in a small shed and a run, and your children will love taking care of them.
7.Lead by example:
One of the best ways to instill a healthy lifestyle in your children is to lead one yourself. Children are constantly picking up on our habits and behaviors, and parents are seen as role models whose habits should be taken after. Make sure that you are active, healthy, and also explore activities, socializing, and other interests outside of work

8.Give them healthy sleep :
the average kid has a busy day. There's school, taking care of your pets, running around with friends, going to sports practice or other activities, and doing your homework. Phew! It's tiring just writing it all down. By the end of the day, your body needs a break. Sleep allows your body to rest for the next day.

Sleep is important!

Every living thing sleeps, from the smallest insect to the largest whale. Some animals spend as many as 20 hours a day sleeping! While children and adults don't need to sleep quite so many hours, our sleep is just as important.
We need sleep to keep us healthy, happy, and doing our best
