DALLAS, TEXAS: A monument will be build at University of Texas Arlington, in honor of Pakistan’s former prime minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed where she delivered her last lecture in a USA campus.

Pakistan Council of Dallas Fort Worth and Pakistan People’s Party North Texas chapter requested the University administration for this monument as a historic marker at the site of the historic lecture. The University has welcomed the idea and has appreciated the request.

According to details Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto gave this lecture on March 26th 2007, a few months before her visit back to Pakistan in October 2007. Her visit to UTA included her address to students as well as a public address; this lecture turned out to be her last one in US as she was assassinated in December 2007.

A request was sent to UTA to honor the historical event and to install a monument at its Texas Hall where the lecture was delivered. This will preserve the historic nature of the lecture.

PPP North Texas President Zahid A, Khanzada and Senior Vice President Syed Fayyaz Hassan along-with board member of Pakistan Council of Dallas Fort Worth Aftab Siddiqui met with Ms. Amy Schultz, Associate Vice President Communications and Community Relations of UTA, to discuss the details of proposed monument.

Ms. Schultz expressed her and University President’s appreciation of the idea and shown willingness to proceed with discussion on this topic.

It was suggested to invite the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto to inaugurate such a monument; a proposal for a conference with themes of Democracy and women in leadership was also discussed in which Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto shaheed's legacy will be highlighted.

Ms. Schultz told the group that all these proposals will be presented to relevant authorities and will have further discussion on this matter and a date will be fixed for such an occasion.
