  • Protection of Pakistan (Amendment) Ordinance presented in Senate




Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada on behalf of Minister of Law, Justice and Human Rights Pervaiz Rashid laid before the House the Protection of Pakistan (Amendment) Ordinance 2014 (Ordinance No 1 of 2014).

Members belonging to opposition benches staged a token walkout from the House over the issuance of the ordinance.

The Senate was informed Tuesday that National Highway Authority has planned to install 113 permanent weigh stations at strategic location to cater the menace of overloading to save the National Highways.

Pirzada informed the House during question hour that 62 weigh stations have been installed and out of these 57 are functional. He said NHA has also deployed 20 mobile weigh stations at critical locations.

The minister said that Axel load policy for the National Highways and Motorways will be fully implemented from next month after the expiry of one year relaxation period. He said all the unauthorised weigh stations will be removed and vehicles with excess load will be fined and dealt according to the rules.

To a question, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Pir Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashidi said that technical training skill institutions will be initiated in the country in collaboration with different NGOs to meet the demand of the technical manpower in Middle East countries.

He said that during the year 2011 and 2012 demand for about 0.82 million Pakistani workers was received from Middle East through overseas employment promoters. He said during this period 1.07 million workers proceeded to Middle East countries.

Replying to a question, Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar said that government is taking concrete measures to control HIV AIDS in the country. She said the government is focusing support from the Global Fund Grant for awareness against the disease.

She said that there are approximately 0.12 million HIV AIDS patients in the country and out of these only 8,000 are registered. She said the government has established 19 centres all over the country for the control and treatment of the disease.

Later the House started discussion on a motion moved by Raza Rabbani regarding the political and law and order situation with particular reference to recent terrorists activities in the country.
