News Stable Afghanistan in Pak interest: PM Gilani

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Thursday that a stable Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan and the region.

The prime minister added that Islamabad would provide training to Afghan security officials.

Meanwhile Afghan President Karzai took Pakistan into confidence about ongoing talks with Taliban groups.

Talks were held in the federal capital between delegates of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Pakistani delegation was led by Prime Minister Gilani while the Afghan delegation was led by President Hamid Karzai.

During the talks it was agreed that serious efforts would be made to solve the Afghan problem, while intelligence and security cooperation would be increased to secure the border.

Prior to these talks, Prime Minister Gilani held a one on one meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai to discuss bilateral ties and the situation in the region.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai is in Islamabad to participate in trilateral summit.

The presidents of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran will meet here to promoting regional cooperation and strengthening peace and stability.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran and is also expected to arrive in Islamabad today.
