Assalam alaikum,
In Ayat 31 of Surat Ibrahim of the Holy Qur'an (14:31), Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, says:--
"Tell those of My Servants who believe, that they should establish the prayer [Sallat],
and spend out of what We have provided them with, both secretly and openly, before
arrival of the Day when there will be no bargaining, nor any mutual befriending."
Related to this, someone asked the beloved Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, 'What action(s) are most excellent?' and he replied, "to gladden the heart of a human being, to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and to remove the wrongs of the injured."
