The origins of this city are quite old but the proper town was established by the British in 1903.Although it was a small town in the beginning, the British Royal Air Force built an airport here due to its strategic location.

Sargodha is located 172 kilometres west of Lahore, in the Sargodha District. Sargodha is located roughly 94 km northwest of Faisalabad. Sargodha consists of flat plains although there are few small hills on the Sargodha-FaisalabadRoad.

The University of Sargodha (Urdu: یونیورسٹی آف سرگودھا‎) is a publicresearchuniversity based in Sargodha, Punjab, Pakistan. Founded in 2002 by an ordinance of the Government of Pakistan, the university is composed of the central campus in Sargodha, and seven branch satellite campuses located in Faisalabad (Faisalabad Satellite Campus and Women Campus Faisalabad), Lahore,Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali and Bhakkar. Its first acting chairman was Vice-Chancellor Riaz-ul-Haq Tariq.[1] Current Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sargodha, Dr. Salah ud Din Saleemi has been awarded best Vice-Chancellor of any university in Pakistan. It presents eight faculties in the university and has 137 programmes, of which 53 are for M.Phil. and Ph.D.. 400 educational institutions are affiliated with the university,
it is the best uni in the pakistan for girls in terms of environment and facilities.

Climate
The city has a climate of extreme heat in the summers and moderate cold in the winters. The maximum temperature reaches 50 °C (122 °F) in the summer while the minimum temperature recorded is as low as freezing point in the winter.

Alam; 6 July 1935 – 18 March 2013) was[2] a Pakistani fighter pilot, an F-86 Sabreflying ace and one-star general who served with the Pakistan Air Force. Squadron Leader Muhammad Mahmud Alam, Commander of No 11 Squadron, was already a notable leader and highly experienced pilot in 1965, when he was awarded the Sitara-e-Jurat ("The star of courage"), a Pakistani military decoration, for his actions during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. Alam holds the record of having downed five Indian aircraft in less than a minute.
